Sometimes I falter. I look at the world around me, I don’t recognize it, and I begin to despair. But then, I remember what Martin Luther King, Jr. said (quoting a slave preacher) in 1962, “Lord, we ain’t what we oughta be. We ain’t what we want to be. We ain’t what we gonna be. But, thank God, we ain’t what we was.” Then I pick myself up, and forge ahead. Whenever it gets to be too much, fall back and regroup. Do it as often as needed, but keep on keeping on. Giving up isn’t an option.
